The Milita Odisha Nisha Nibaran Abhiyan (MONNA), an anti-liquor body fighting for total prohibition in the State, on Friday announced that it would stage a massive rally in the city on April 4 demanding ban on liquor sale in the State. It was informed by MONNA convener Padma Charan Nayak while addressing his fellow activists at a meeting organised by anti-liquor activists here on the occasion of the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Talking to reporters, Nayak said they would intensify their campaign across the State to make Odisha liquor-free. “We have given several chances to the State Government to take a decision in this matter, but in vain. We will take the issue to streets,” he said. He said BJD MlA Ranendra Pratap Swain would bring a private Bill in the State Assembly seeking a ban on liquor. “We are requesting all the MlAs to support the Bill so that Odisha could be a liquor-free State,” he added. “We have started a State-wide campaign to promote the cause by requesting MlAs of the respective constituencies and people of the State,” Nayak said, adding, “We will give our best to make our movement a success.”
