Private schools' free will adds to parents' woes

Tuesday, 31 March 2015 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The parents of the students studying in most of the private schools of Dehradun are worried as the schools have arbitrarily increased fee and other charges. Many schools of the city have increased the fees by 10-30 per cent putting more burden on the parents. These schools are charging money in various heads like development charges, admission charge, tuition fee, building charges and so on. Recently, one of a prominent school of the city hiked the tuition fees steeply by Rs600 causing resentment among the parents however the school authorities appear adamant on their stand.

Apart from charging fees, the school owners make money by forming a nexus with the stationery and school uniform suppliers. These schools are even demanding fees in lieu of transfer certificates (TCs) which according to the rules should not be charged. The shops providing the uniforms are having a roaring business these days as the parents are visiting them in large numbers to purchases dresses for their wards.
