Monday, 30 November 2015 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Value addition is the need of hour. It is moral responsibility of all to preserve heritages and archaeological wealth. Such lecture series are significant for creating awareness about history of State’s beautiful architecture. This initiative of Tourism Development Corporation is laudable. This was stated by architecture specialist Prof Savita Raje at a lecture on ‘History of Madhya Pradesh’s Architecture’ here on Sunday. She said that knowledge enhances one’s prestige and value addition is also done through knowledge.

Secretary to CM and Tourism Hari Ranjan Rao, Additional MD of Tourism Development Corporation Tanvi Sundriyal, other officers and people were present on the occasion.

Prof Savita Raje said that history of Madhya Pradesh’s architecture was interesting and enlightening. Narmada Valley was our cultural heritage and symbol of prosperity. Through her presentation, Prof Raje showed better use of architecture at Gwalior’s Jhilimili Kala, Kahani of Maheshwar, Bhopal’s historic buildings, Jabalpur’s Shaheed Samark Bhavan, buildings and palaces of Chanderi, Gwalior and laskhar. Even during construction of busy Chowk Bazar, importance has been given to passage of air. At Maheshwar, stone has been used as wood.

Prof. Raje while giving information about urban architecture of Bhopal, Indore, Maheshwar and Gwalior informed that Holkar and Scindia rules constructed buildings by inviting European architects.

Their buildings were constructed through mixture of Indian and European architecture. Gwalior’s Phool Bagh is the best example of mixture of Indian and Italian architectures.
