Monday, 30 November 2015 | RR Srivastava | Hazaribagh

Pro-VC of Vinova Bhave University said that pollution, population and poverty were the three problems which have emerged as the biggest challenge for the developing world. Governments were trying their best to face the challenges by introducing schemes after schemes but it is unfortunate that the attempts did not worked. The Pro-VC was speaking during a seminar organized by political science department on the topic ‘Food Security and Concept of Roti Bank’.

“It was our culture which always motivated us to think for the society and some among us always come forward to do something for the society. If you want to be successful in life then be a patient listener, go ahead grasping the good comments and leaving behind the criticism,” said Sinha appealing  everyone to contribute in the fight against hunger and poverty.

Md. Khalid who has started Roti bank in Hazaribagh said that the idea of establishment of the bank came in his mind after going through news from a village of Uttar Pradesh. “It is a small step taken by me and my colleagues but our aim is to make it large and to hand over the responsibility to the youths like you in VBU so that it can achieve the goal for which it has been started,” he said.

Tapas Chakraverty of the Roti bank said that the experiment has proved that bread has no religion and caste. “Today a Muslim is eating the bread made in the kitchen of Hindu family and Hindu are eating the bread of Muslim family. We use to collect breads from the schools and distribute it among the needy ones who never ask that from where it has come from,” said Chakraverty.

Dean, social science Dr. BP Singh said that every developing country is facing the problem of hunger, poverty, unemployment, illiteracy etc. “It was Carl Marx who first started war against hunger and poverty and the concept of Roti bank is a pleasant surprise for all of us that the civil society of Hazaribaghh has also started a war though in a different way,” he said.

In her presidential address, head of the department Dr. Usha Singh praised the concept of roti bank and said that people have heard  that service of mankind is in the base of every religion and here this concept has proved it. Prof. Sukalyan Moitra introduced the topic of the seminar illustrating food security and the concept of roti bank with the note that roti bank could be a good platform for food security.

Dr. Pramod Kumar, Dr. Ajay Bahadur Singh, Dr. P Mahto, Dr. DK Gupta, Dr. Ashok and others  also addressed the gathering. Dr. Rita Kumari gave vote of thanks. Seminar ended with donation of breads by the students from their tiffin boxes to the roti bank.
