The State Government is on back foot after the district police pasted a notice at the residence of former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, despite the fact that Singh was in the US in connection with treatment of his daughter.
News regarding Singh’s US tour has been published in all the newspapers, the notice issued by the police clearly indicated that somebody in the State Government is playing politics over the issue. Soon after the notice was issued on Sunday, Singh from the US tweeted and held Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan responsible for the act.
Moreover factually, the stand of the police is still not clear. The police have deliberately not arrested Singh in the case so far, while former Assembly Speaker Shrinivas Tiwari has been arrested and released on bail. The police have already submitted challan in the court, which a plea that a supplementary challan might be submitted after Singh’s arrest.
Moreover, political observers feel that the case has turned out as a political game, as despite having submitted challan in the court, no action has been taken against those who were recruited fraudulently.
Generally, once challan is submitted in the court, the State Government takes action of suspension against the Government employees against whom challan has been submitted. However, no such process was adopted at Government level. This puts a big question mark on the authenticity of the FIR registered in the recruitment scam.
A criminal case of cheating has been registered against around a dozen persons in connection with recruitment in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Secretariat. In the case, former Speaker Shrinivas Tiwari and former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh have been named as accused along with those who were recruited.
The notice was issued by the City Superintendent of police (CSP) of Jehangirabad, asking Singh to appear in his office on September 30 for recording his statements in connection with the scam.
Reacting to the notice from the US, Digvijay tweeted on Monday, "Shivraj ji, I thank you for serving me a notice on Anant Chaturdashi (an auspicious day of ten-day Ganesh festival), knowing the fact that I am in America for treatment of my daughter."
The second tweet read, "Please don't worry, I will not escape anywhere and will present myself before police the moment I return. Your police can take whatever action they want."
