Intensifying their stir against the land and plot allotment scam, nearly 700 people coming from several districts under the aegis of 30 different civil society organisations on Monday staged a protest rally here and gheraoed the Assembly demanding a CBI probe into the scam.
The agitators reached near the Assembly in a procession which originated from Ram Mandir Square. They also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Governor urging him to intervene in the issue by ensuring a CBI probe into the irregularities.
“We have been demanding a CBI inquiry into the land in the State. Despite our repeated appeals to the Chief Minister he is yet to order a CBI probe into the land allotment scam exposed by the CAG and into the other irregularities in respect of allotment of Government land, houses and plots to Ministers, MlAs, bureaucrats and other influential persons under discretionary quota,” said convenor Pradip Pradhan of Odisha Soochana Adhikar Abhijan, one of the civil society groups.
He alleged that the State Government is protecting the defaulters and offenders in every possible way. “A total of 30 social organisations have already joined hands to intensify its campaign and to fight unitedly against the scamsters and their protectors in the State by organising demonstrations, awareness campaigns, leaflet distribution, signature campaign at block and district level,” added Pradhan.
