The Freethought Party of India has opposed the State Government’s new scheme ‘Pilgrimage for Senior Citizens’.
“The scheme, for which the Government plans to spend Rs 30 crore per annum, is totally unnecessary. It would rather put lives of those elderly persons at risk and lead to environment pollution and increase in superstitions,” said Freethought Party of India general secretary B Ramachandra CST Voltaire through a Press release.
Besides, many tourist bus owners would gain profit with the Government’s money, added Voltaire, who has suggested, “The Government should rather create standard parks at every gram panchayat level to ensure a healthy lifestyle for elderly persons and erect special tracks for their morning and evening walks.”
The party further demanded that the Government bear medical expenses of senior citizens suffering from diseases like diabetes and BP and provide pucca houses for poor elderly persons.
