The Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested a pharmacist of a city-based medical college and hospital here on charge of molesting a girl student of the nursing college under the same institution.
The accused was identified as Santosh Kumar Hazari (43) of Nayagarh district. He is working as a pharmacist in the medical college.
The incident came to the fore after the victim, native of West Bengal, lodged a complaint with the Mancheswar police in the morning. According to the complainant, the incident took place on Saturday while she was doing her duty in an operation theatre.
The victim alleged that Hazari had repeatedly asked her whether she had a boyfriend or not. When she didn’t listen to him, he told her to give medicine to a patient. later when she turned back, Hazari molested her, she said.
Tension ran high in the college campus in the evening after the nursing students staged a demonstration and broke some flower vases.
The students alleged that the hospital authorities did not pay any attention to their allegation when they informed the matter immediately after the incident happened.
After hours of protest, the Mancheswar police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control by arresting the accused.
