With the Pauri municipality failing in the last two years to enforce the ban on polythene bags in town, the Pauri business association has now taken the initiative to prohibit polythene use here. The association Devendra Rawat said that the association had taken important decisions related to use of polythene bags, civic sanitation and encroachment.
Exhorting members of the business fraternity to effectively observe the prohibition on the use of any type of polythene bag in the Pauri district headquarter from January 1, he informed that any businessman found using polythene bags will be fined Rs 500 by the association.
The initiative of the business association to enforce the polythene ban has been welcomed by concerned citizens and environment lovers. It will be recalled that the Pauri municipal council chairman Yashpal ‘Benam’ had constituted a municipal committee to check the use of polythene bags in town but the committee remained restricted to official documents.
