The Pantnagar Kisan Mela to be held from October 1 this year will also feature a separate stall for food products from various colleges and research institutions.
The stall will include meat and dairy products, including ice cream in various flavours from GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, fish cultets and other items from the College of Fisheries, Mandua (finger millet) biscuits and other items from the College of Home Science along seasonal fruits and related items from the Horticulture Research Centre among other items. It would be the first time that such a stall is being set up in the Kisan Mela.
Various programmes are slated to be held during the four-day Kisan Mela. According to the university’s director of Extension Education, YPS Dabas, an exhibition cum competition of fruits, vegetables and their products on October 1-2. The auction of hybrid calves will be held at the educational dairy farm, Nagla on October 2 in the afternoon. On October 3, a cattle exhibition cum competition will be convened at the College of Veterinary and Animal Science.
Scientists will deliver talks on various issues in a special lecture series which will be held in the afternoon for farmers on the first three days of the Kisan Mela. The lectures will be delivered on topics including management of milch cattle, renovation of old orchards and the profitable business of mushroom production. In addition to these, a scientist each from every college of the university will also deliver talks on important issues. Interactive sessions will be held for three days from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM to enable farmers raise their issues and questions with scientists. Cultural programmes will also be held on the first three evenings of the event which will conclude on the afternoon of October 4 with distribution of prizes to winners of various competitions.
Dabas further informed that free of cost lodging arrangements have been made available for farmers visiting the fair. “A free vehicle service has also been provided for farmers who want to visit various research centres of the university on campus,” he added.
