Four water bodies located in Nagar Parshad area of Daltonganj will be cleared of encroachments. These water bodies have been encroached by the influential people. The residents are facing acute shortage of water due to these encroachments. Palamu’s Deputy Commissioner K Srinivasan said the four water bodies have been measured to find the area encroached by the unruly. Srinivasan said Jharkhand High Court at Ranchi has directed the State Government to clear encroachments from water bodies, roads and pavements.
However, Srinivasan was reminded that similar efforts to clear these four water bodies of encroachment were conducted in the past with pomp and show by the then DCs, but all were futile. But Srinivasan assured, “This time, the encroachments would be removed.”
Sources said the encroachers have approached legal pundits in Ranchi to counter act the administration’s move to raze their concrete structures. The administration has issued notices to the encroachers to explain as to how they are encroaching the water bodies.
On other hand, an encroacher, who claims himself to be a resident on the periphery of the pond, said, “I have been paying municipal rent for years and hence, my living on the periphery of the pond is not illegal.”
