OROP: Ex-Army personnel up ante

Sunday, 31 May 2015 | PNS | Bhubaneswar

The NDA Government’s apathy to implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) rule for the benefit of the retired personnel of the Indian Army has been resented by the Indian Ex-Services league State branch.

In a Press release, the association said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is wrong that there are a number of definitions of OROP. “There is only one definition of it, as given by the Parliamentary Committee headed by Bhagat Singh Koshiyary in 2011, which had been accepted by the Government and Parliament. Modi seems to have been wrongly briefed by the bureaucracy. By bringing in any other definition of the OROP, the officials are only sabotaging the issue. Modi’s statement that  the Government is for 5 years implies that he does not want to expedite OROP’s implementation and the veterans may have to wait for 4 years for his commitment to materialise,” it rued.

Association general secretary Bidyadhar Nayak said the Army veterans have been betrayed and threatened an agitation.
