The State police are gearing up for the second phase of Operation Smile (find missing children), which would be undertaken from July 1 this year.
The Ministry of Home, Government of India, has directed the police force of the entire country to participate in the month-long exercise.
The Additional Director General (DG) of police, crime, law and order AK Raturi held a meeting of Inspector General (IG) Garhwal range, DIG Kumaon range, all senior Superintendents of Police (SSP) via video conferencing on Saturday and directed them to take appropriate measures to make the Operation Smile a success in the State. He said the operation would be conducted by the teams trained previously for the purpose and these teams would prepare a blue print of the activities in the month of June.
These teams would undertake a massive drive in the places where chances of finding missing children are more like, hotels, restaurants, roadside eateries, red light areas, bus stands, railway stations, religious places, shelter homes and road side area.
The ADG directed the senior officers to organise a three day workshop for the personnel in first week of June in which training of prevailing laws concerning children, directives of commission for protection of child rights and human rights commission would be imparted.
