In response to the fatwa issued against Yog Guru Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali products made by using cow urine by Tamil Nadu-based Muslim organization, Acharya Bal Krishna, second-in-command of Patanjali Yog Peeth, has called the statement itself as “haram” (lacking truth) and baseless. He said that lack of knowledge or a conspiracy against Patanjali might be the motive behind issuing such fatwa. The president of All India Imam Sangathan Mufti Shamoon Kazmi seconded his statement that by issuing such fatwa on baseless issue the dignity of the verdict was lost.
Bal Krishna said the person who made the statement must ask from thousands of Muslim brothers and sisters who are engaged in Patanjali’s industrial units whether they were using cow urine in all products, they manufacture.
Clearing his stand at Patanjali Yog peeth Acharya Bal Krishna said on Wednesday that though he did not have the copy of the fatwa or the source but from media reports he came to know that the Tamil Nadu based organization had issued a fatwa saying that the use of products made by using cow urine was considered ‘haram’ (forbidden) in Islam which was entirely illogical. “Out of the 700 products and their variants made by Patanjali only five products had ingredient cow urine. Only one medicine Sanjeevani Vati had this ingredient as component used to purify another ingredient, a poisonous herb. Rest products were for external use like oil, soap and disinfectant. Godhan ark (distilled cow urine) itself was a medicine.” Even Hindus never used Gomutra in every food they eat or cosmetics they used, it was only as a medicine that one product of Patanjali had this ingredient which was orally taken. He further added that even in Arab countries where Islam originated urine of camel was used for its medicinal properties. It was never forrbidden.
Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamat (TNTJ) had said that cow’s urine was being used as a ‘key ingredient’ in cosmetics, medicines and food products of Patanjali that are available in open markets as well as online. “According to the beliefs of Muslims, cow’s urine is haram which should not be used. Therefore, TNTJ issues a fatwa that products of Patanjali are haram,” TNTJ said in a release.
Bal Krishna even showed a letter dated 30 April this year from Darul Ulool Devband which had responded to a query made by a Muslim on usage of products of Patanjali to which the Maulwi had replied that it was genuine to use the cow urine as medicine if no other medicine was available.
Speaking to media persons, national secretary and president of All India Imam Sangathan, Mufti Shamoom Kazmi said, “I and many of my Muslim brothers and sisters are using and would continue using their products. The Maulwi who has issued a fatwa has put the dignity of the fatwa at stake. “Har cheez par fatwa dena sahi nahi hota (It was not right to issue on every point). One must have full knowledge before making a statement.”
