There were tense moments inside the humid and crowded counting hall of the DAV College when NSUI leaders demanded recounting of votes after their candidate Mohan Bhandari trailed by 39 votes at the end of the counting.
The NSUI leaders Kuldeep Kumar and the State NSUI president Shyam Singh Chauhan led the agents of NSUI to demand a recounting.
The demand delayed the declaration of result but after internal deliberation the CEO Ajay Saxena refused the demand.
His contention was that since no objections were raised by the agents at counting table and the jury of three senior professors double checked the invalid votes with the agents sitting at all tables, there is no need for the recounting.
This decision infuriated the NSUI leaders who in fit of rage charged towards the counting staff.
The police intervened swiftly and forcibly dispatched the NSUI leaders out of the counting centre.
S S Chauhan later blamed the staff of adopting a partisan attitude and said that the organisation would lodge a formal application to the grievance cell against the CEO Ajay Saxena.
Outside the campus the police used force on over zealous ABVP supports that started tearing posters of rival candidates even before the final declaration of result.
