Now, every panchayat to have a fair-price shop

Madhya Pradesh Public Distribution System (Control) Order-2015 as per provisions of the National Food Security Act-2013 is being implemented to further streamline and make effective targeted public distribution system in the State. Now, every panchayat of the State will have a fair price shop.

Additional shop will be opened if number of eligible families exceeds 800. Abolishing system of lead organizations, provisions for door-step supply have been made. Following implementation of the scheme, documents pertaining of fair price shops can be provided under Right to Information Act. Another special feature of the order is that strict action would be taken against persons embezzling PDS materials.

To financially empower fair price shops, the commission given to them has been increased from April 2015. Instead of Rs 20, commission of Rs 70 per quintal is being given to fair price shops in urban areas. In rural areas, lump sump commission of Rs 8400 per shop is being given.

As many as 22,409 fair prices shops are being operated in the state. It has been decided to construct shop-cum-godown for safety of food grains and other materials. At present, 6471 shops have their own godowns. Construction of godowns for remaining shops is going on at a rapid pace.

As per provisions of National Food Security Act-2013, responsibility of State Food Commission has been given temporarily to Madhya Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. In every district, collector has been declared as District Complaint Redressal Officer.

National Food Security Act is being implemented in a better way in the state. According to Mukhyamantri Annapoorna Yojana under the Act, wheat, rice and iodised salt are being provided at Re. one per kg. Number of eligible families under the scheme is 1.16 crore. Benefit of the scheme is being given to 5.31 crore population of Madhya Pradesh.
