The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an Action-Taken Report (ATR) from the School and Mass Education Secretary within four weeks on the issue of deprivation of 30 candidates to appear the OTET conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) in September last.
The candidates from Bhadrak district had to be deprived of writing the OTET because of errors in their admit cards. The errors were committed by the BSE officials.
The NHRC passed the order acting on the information sent by the district Collector and a petition filed by Supreme Court advocate and Rights campaigner Radhakanta Tripathy.
While the examination centre was mentioned as Charampa on the admit cards of the examinees, the centre refused to allow the candidates to sit for the OTET examination.
The petitioner requested the NHRC to direct the Chief Secretary and the Secretary, School and Mass Education, Odisha to take action against the wrong doers and ask the Director General of Police to arrest the culprits in the illegal activities and pay compensation of Rs 5 lakh to each victim besides allowing another chance to the victims to appear the exam.
