Narendra Tomar to flag off mini marathon

Union Steel and Mines Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will flag off the Second Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia National Mini Marathon in Madhya Pradesh’s citadel town on Sunday.

“Tomar will flag off the marathon at Kotratal at 0700 hrs. The state’s Health Minister Narottam Mishra, Mayor Vivek Shejwalkar, MPs Anup Mishra and Bhagirath Prasad and former minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha would be present,” Madhya Pradesh Industry Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia told reporters here on Friday.

The marathon is being organised under the aegis of the Municipal Corporation, the district administration and the state’s Sports and Youth Welfare and the Women and Child Development departments. The competition has been organised in two categories -- Junior Category (four km) and Senior Category (seven km).

The winner will receive a cash reward of Rs21,000, while the first, second, third and fourth runners up would receive Rs15,000, Rs10,000, Rs8,000 and Rs5,000 respectively. All runners up achieving sixth to twentieth position would receive Rs2,000 each. A total of 100 cycles would also be distributed through lottery. Earlier, the Minister paid homage to her mother Amma Maharaja Vijaya Raje Scindia at the Chhatri during the birth anniversary celebrations of the late Rajmatha at the Amma Chhatri.

She also paid homage to her late brother and for cabinet minister Madhav Rao Scindia at his Chhatri. During this time she recalled the affectionate relations she had with her brother. She said that she had maintained a high level of love and respect for her elder brother. She also recalled the services of both the Rajmata and Madhav Rao Scindia for the development of Gwalior.

On this occasion Mayor Vivek Narain Shejwalkar, GDCA Chairman Abhay Chowdhari, SADA Chairman Rakesh Jadon, Anurag Banasl, Jay Singh Kushwah, Narendra Tripathi, lokendra Tomr, Devesh Sharma, Paras Jain and a number of doctors, engineers, businessmen and others were present.

The office bearers of the Gwalior Chamber of Commerce too reached the venue to pay respects to the two departed souls.

During the bhajan programme, Yashodhara Raje become emotional thinking about the past days. She recalled as how her late mother used to call all her children near her during such events of poojas.
