A miscreant allegedly involved in duping a city based medical practitioner to the tune of `94 lakh has been successfully nabbed by Crime Branch Bhopal police. However, the main accused is still absconding.
Mehfuz Ali, a retailer of Idea SIM card, has been nabbed by crime branch Bhopal on the charge of helping in the offender in stopping the functions of old SIM and getting new SIM issued in the name of the victim, Dr Anand Saxena.
The police had in June, 2015 had registered a case under Sections 408,420,467 and 468 of the IPC and started investigation. After around five months, the police succeeded in arresting only the SIM retailer claiming that he had helped the accused in procuring new SIM.
The incident took place when the victim along with his family had gone to Chandigarh and had asked his assistant Divyansh linjhara to take care of the house but on June 2, 2015 when he (the doctor) returned the house it was found ransacked.
The victim had gone on May 26, 2015 and when he returned on June 2, 2015 he found that the lock of the centre lock of the almirah was broken and cheque books of HDFC and Bank of Baroda were missing and passport of his son Divyansh Saxena was also missing. When the banks were checked it was found that around `94 lakh has been transferred in the bank account of Divyansh linjhara.
Providing modus operandi crime branch Addl SP Shailendra Chouhan said that linjhara and his accomplice applied for reissuance of SIM card which was meant to keep the victim unaware of the transactions.
He said in the initial investigations the role of the bank employees also seems suspicious as at the time of withdrawal of big amounts from bank, account holders are informed or confirmation is taken which was not done and it is possible that if the information was given to the victim the mobile number was obtained and misused.
