A team of members of the All Utkal Odia Graduate Honours Students’ Association which has been on a cycle mission from Santiniketan in West Bengal to Satyabadi in Puri beginning from May 16 met Governor SC Jamir here on Friday and submitted a memorandum to him demanding appointment of special Odia language teachers in all schools across the State.
Their demands also included setting up of training centres for Odia language teachers, inclusion of Odia as a compulsory subject at +2 and + 3 level and immediate fill up of vacant posts of Odia teachers.
The association members, led by Odia Bhasa Sachetan Yatra Abyarthana committee Convenor Hemant Rath, undertook a series of similar activities on the day for promotion of the regional language in the State.
The team met Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahy, Utkal Sammilani president Guruprasad Mohanty, Prof Adwaita Patra, among others, urging to allocate 20 per cent reservation for Odia students in BEd training programme.
Earlier, they met presidents of three major political parties and gave them their memorandum.
