Saturday, 31 October 2015 | PNS | MALKANGIRI

A group of suspected Maoists set a private passenger bus on fire on the Malkangiri-Chhattisgarh border on Friday morning. No causality was reported.

According to reports, the ultras, after intercepting a private bus at Gopalapatnam in Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh, asked the passengers to get down of the vehicle. Sources said the Maoists were observing Bijapur bandh on Friday while the passenger loaded bus was passing the passage in the district on Malkangiri-Chhattisgarh border. After unboarding the passengers, the red rebels set the bus on fire and fled the area soon after the incident. Following the reports of the ultras setting a bus on for security personnel rushed to the spot and started combing operation in the area to flush out the Maoists. Recently, the red rebels torched a truck along the border. They intensified their activities following spree of surrendering of Maoists supporters in the district last month.
