Man-eater leopard hunted down

The leopard declared man- eater in Khirsu block of Pauri Garhwal district was killed by an authorised hunter near the village Jaletha. The big  cat   reportedly had mauled to death a 50-year-old Rajeshwari Devi, resident of village Bhatuli in Khirsu block of Srinagar Tehsil on July 19. The big cat  that  was killed was a female one aged around six.

Notably,  the leopard killed Rajeshwari Devi on July 19 when she was working in the agricultural field. Chief wildlife warden declared the leopard a man-eater the  following day, deputing the  authorised hunter Nabab Saffi, resident of Sheerkot of Bijnor district, to kill the  big  cat.

S D O Garhwal Forest Division Subodh Kala said that two authorised hunters had found  the  female one of the two stalking the area as the man-eater and  shot it dead. Hunter Nabab Saffi had fired two shots  earlier  to kill it two days  ago, but  it  escaped unhurt.  However, on Tuesday night, he succeeded. The forest department has kept cages  in the village to   capture the second leopard.
