Mahila Congress State president and MlA Sarita Arya met Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Monday and apprised him of the discontent among the women members of the party regarding the lack of posts being accorded to them in the party organisation and State Government. She also praised the State Government for various initiatives undertaken for the welfare of women but added that attention should also be paid to the senior leaders of the Mahila Congress.
Addressing the media at the Congress Bhawan here on Monday, Arya said she had held a meeting of the Mahila Congress’ Dehradun Mahanagar unit on Sunday. During the meeting many members had expressed dissatisfaction at the party not according ‘respectful positions’ to them in either the party organisation or the State Government. She said, “I raised this issue with the CM who assured me of proactive action stating that a list had already been drafted and the senior leaders left out of the list will be added to it. Senior Mahila Congress leaders who have been working for the party for many years will be accorded positions in the party organisation and State Government.” The Congress leader further said that she would be forming her executive including some new faces within six months.
Regarding works undertaken by the State Government she said that the monetary component of the Kanya Dhan Yojana had been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 per beneficiary. “Women run dairy enterprises are being provided subsidy and some of the posts of inspectors to which appointments are being made have been designated for women. Raising awareness on such measures for women welfare and other public welfare measures of the State Government, the Mahila Congress will strengthen support for the Congress in view of the 2017 Assembly polls so that the Congress is re-elected to govern the State under Harish Rawat as chief minister. Apart from this, the Mahila Congress members from Uttarakhand will also be participating in the gherao of parliament planned on August 6to protest against the policies of the Central Government,” she added.
