The Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (CIWA) here celebrated the Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Week from December 23 to 29.

As part of the celebrations, three outreach programmes were organised at three villages, Kadua, Chamarpada and Bandhahata of Puri and Cuttack districts. Scientist-farmer interface, debate competition for farmwomen and quiz competition for children were held.

At the concluding event, Orissa Krishak Samaj president Dr PC Mohanty joined as chief guest and stressed on the role of farmers to make India self-reliant in food production. He said, “Innovations in science and technology should reach out to the farmers for increasing productivity and income.”

CIWA Director Dr SK Srivastava elaborated on the role of the CIWA in gender mainstreaming and women empowerment. Principal scientists Dr Anil Kumar and Dr Naresh Babu stressed on the importance of having closer linkage between farmers and scientists for effective transfer of technologies.

More than 80 farmwomen and other stakeholders from Puri and Cuttack districts participated.
