The human-leopard conflict continuing unabated is leaving the people of most of the hill districts of Garhwal region panicky. Such incidents have been on the rise recently. Pauri is one of the mountainous districts of the region where the leopards are again on the prowl, triggering panic around. Recently, a leopard attacked a woman, Sulochana Devi in the forest of Naugaon under Kot block of the district when she was collecting fodder for her domestic cattle.
When she screamed, others rushed in and the leopard fled. Sulochana Devi who was mauled by the beast was first taken to Base Hospital Srinagar Garhwal, from where she was admitted at Dehradun Hospital. A forest team was deputed in the area where the attack occurred. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pauri Pl Shah said the injured was being treated in Doon Hospital. Divisional forest officer Raj Mani Pandey said that the forest team has been deputed in the area to catch the leopard. The leopard was seen three days back near the new bus station on Pauri-Devprayag road of the district headquarters Pauri. It had attacked several domestic animals, the residents said.
