Punjab labour Minister Bhagat Chunni lal on Friday inaugurated the newly constructed labourshed with a cost of Rs20 lakh for the convenience and welfare of labourers coming from nearby areas to seek work on day-to-day basis.
The Minister also laid the foundation stone of Punjab Model Welfare Centre to be constructed at the cost of Rs15 crore at Mohali. The purpose of the centre is to accommodate all the offices of the labour department under one roof which would be beneficial to the labour class. The Bhawan would be completed by middle of next year. The Minister said this Bhawan was a beginning and 29 more Welfare Centres for the labourers would also be constructed across the State.
He also asked the officers of the department to ensure that the welfare schemes of the Government are strictly implemented so that the needy labourers could take the benefit of these schemes as envisaged by the State Government.
Chief Parliamentary Secretary, labour, Nand lal; Principal Secretary, labour, Vishavjeet Khanna; Chairperson, District Planning Board, Bibi Amanjot Kaur, Panch, Sarpanches and senior officers were also present on the occasion.
