More than 500 students of the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and Kalinga Institute of Social Science (KISS) here joined an awareness rally on organ donation held on the occasion of the World Organ Donation and Organ Transplantation Day on Saturday.
The rally, organised by the KIMS and the Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital here, was also participated by KIMS Director Prof Dr SC Dash, Cardiology HoD Dr Panchanan Sahoo and MR Panchanan Parida.
Besides, a Continuous Medical Education (CME) was also held at the KIMS. Inaugurating it, Assembly Speaker Niranjan Pujari said there are legal hurdles in organ donation and most of the people are not even aware of organ donation. Hence awareness should be generated among people to donate organs and for this, doctors and medical students have a vital role to play, he added.
Dr Dash said People should come forward to donate organs to save lives of many people. Besides, one can donate body of a dead person those bodies are suitable for medical research.
Among others, KIIT and KISS President Saswati Bal, KIIT University Vice-Chancellor Prof PP Mathur spoke.
