Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal has approved a proposal to increase the amount of scholarship being given to students belonging to general category and backward classes and studying at certain institutions in the State. The scholarship amount would be increased from `45 to `200 per month.
An official spokesman on Sunday said that the income limit has also been raised from `2 lakh to `2.5 lakh to give these scholarships. He said that the beneficiaries included those getting training at Government Industrial Training Institutes, Government Industrial Training Institutes for Women and Government School of Arts, Rohtak.
The spokesperson said that the students belonging to below poverty line families would be covered under this scheme to enable more such students to get the benefit of scholarship. The Chief Minister has also approved a budget of `1.83 crore for this purpose, he added.
