According to a report, an electric trip was reported at the Talcher OPTCl grid on October 25. During an inquiry, forest officials found the carcass under the 220-KV transmission line and informed to the DFO. The DFO along with the Meramundali Grid AGM and the Satkosia Tiger Reserve RCCF inspected the spot and observed that a female about 14 year old had died coming in contact with the transmission line after pulling a bamboo.
As per an official report, as many as four elephants have been electrocuted in the last three years in Athagarh Forest. “It is very sorrowful that four pachyderms have lost their lives due to electrocution and no preventive measures have been done. Forest officials have always tried to save energy officials in such cases,” rued animal lovers.
