Though Jhajjar district has witnessed significant improvement in the gender ratio this year in comparison to previous years, yet there are still 17 villages which are proving to be a nightmare for the authorities in improving sex ratio. Female foeticide continues unabated in these villages as sex ratio in these villages are less than 600. Moreover, laadpur among the villages has registered merely 290 girls against 1,000 boys in 2014, considered alarming from any standards.
Concerned over this alarming situation in the villages, the district health authorities at a meeting of its officials held here decided to rope in village panchayats, social organisations and youth clubs besides ASHA and Aanganwari workers to educate the villagers against adverse effect of gender imbalance in future for improving sex ratio.
“We have chalked out a comprehensive plan to improve sex ratio in all these 17 villages. All Medical Officers (MOs) have been asked to keep a close tab on pregnant women of their area concerned with the help of ANM, ASHA and Aanganwari workers so as to curb female foeticide,” said Dr Raj Karan, Deputy Civil Surgeon in Jhajjar.
Moreover, the ASHA workers had been directed not only to perform the pregnancy test of women of their area concerned but also to register them in their office record in order to monitor them persistently, he added. Jhajjar had worst gender ratio in the State after Mahendragarh district with 797 girls against 1,000 boys in 2011 but the district has improvement the figure with 825 girls against 1,000 boys in 2014.
