On the first day of his Japan visit, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held extensive discussions with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Bhopal-Indore metro rail project in Kyoto.
JICA has evinced interest in partnering with Madhya Pradesh in the project. laying of railway line between Bhopal and Indore will cost Rs12 thousand crore. JICA will soon send a technical team to study feasibility of the project in Bhopal and Indore, which will help in preparing its detailed project report. In this way, JICA will become technical partner of Madhya Pradesh in Bhopal-Indore metro rail project.
Besides, the Chief Minister also held extensive discussions about possibilities of JICA’s partnership in other priority schemes of Madhya Pradesh, especially low-cost housing units and cooperation in development of Smart Cities. It is noteworthy that JICA has sanctioned Rs 1038 crore loan for Madhya Pradesh Transmission System Modernisation Project. The project aims at further strengthening and improvement of power transmission system.
JICA officers congratulated the CM for unprecedented agricultural growth in MP. They said that JICA is eager to cooperate with MP in increasing soybean production. Chouhan also discussed drinking water supply in rural areas and tourism development in national parks.
