Come December and Indira Gandhi Agricultural University (IGAU) will begin the work for construction of its unique ‘Agricultural Museum’ as part of its ‘Outreach Programme’.
A team of 50 experienced people from a New Delhi-based firm named Jain Expositions has been roped in to implement the project.
“The main building of the museum will have various attractions spread in around 400 square feet area. Initially, we will begin with designing the interior of the museum on the ground floor which is scheduled in the first week of December and likely to complete it by February next year. Kiosks and touchscreens are to be displayed besides 3D pictures and models. Also, there would be a 25-seater ‘Special Theatre’ on this floor, presenting documentaries and short films related to agricultural topics,” IGAU Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr SK Patil told The Pioneer.
“We are focusing to make the museum language easy as well as 'age friendly' for students, scientists, farmers and those keen to know the agriculture scenario existing in Chhattisgarh,” he said.
Interestingly, the university authorities are trying to ensure the solutions of the agro-problems within the museum are dealt at international, national and state levels. It included changing climatic conditions and tribal culture.
Meanwhile, the Project’s Nodal Officer Dr AP Singh said an 'Open Museum' on 2.5 acres land is planned for the next phase near the Main Museum. The cultural heritage and habitat of the State will also be depicted through human-like models in the later phases.
As far as the budget is concerned, Patil said it is around `3 crore. “The building expense of `1 crore is allotted by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). IGAU is funding the power. Jain Exposition is financing `2.9 crore for the Museum’s interior portion,” he maintained.
Asked about the entry charges, University's Directorate of Extension Services Head Dr MP Thakur said, that they are yet to decide but it would be nominal.
