Hot weather prevails in Punjab, Haryana

Hot weather conditions on Sunday prevailed in most parts of Punjab and Haryana with the mercury crossing above normal level in several parts of both States.

The Union Territory of Chandigarh, the joint Capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded mercury at 35.5 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal, according to the Met Department.

The minimum temperature recorded in the city was three degrees above normal settling at 27.7 degrees on Sunday.

As per the Met Department, the temperature level witnessed rise in the past one week across the region. The temperature levels were recorded upto three notches above normal in some parts of the region on Sunday.

Punjab holy city Amritsar's maximum temperature was recorded at 36.8 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal while both ludhiana and Patiala recorded their maximums at 35.5 degrees Celsius.

In Haryana, Hisar braved hot weather at 35.2 degrees Celsius and Ambala saw maximum at 35.2 degree Celsius.

Hissar recorded minimum temperature at 27.2 degree Celsius, Narnaul 27.4 degrees, Ambala 27.2 degree Celsius, ludhiana 27.2 degree Celsius, Patiala 27.4 degrees and Amritsar recorded 25.4 degree Celsius. The Met Department has forecast light rainfall at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana in next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, no major rainfall was reported in Himachal Pradesh for the past one week and similar conditions would continue the coming week too, a weather official said on Sunday.

Precipitation occurred at a few places since Saturday, but there was no appreciable change in the minimum and maximum temperatures, said a Met official. The weather bureau said the towns of Shimla, Kufri, Kalpa, Palampur, Dalhousie and Manali recorded no rain. However, Dharamsala received 13 mm of rain, while Kumarsain town in Shimla district got six mm of rainfall.

"The monsoon will remain subdued in the region till September 5," the official added.

Himachal’s capital recorded a maximum of 25 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal. Among other places, Dharamshala recorded 28.6 degree Celsius, Kalpa 25.6 degrees, Solan 30.5 degrees, Nahan 28.7 degrees, Una saw a high of 36.4 degrees and Sundernagar settled at 33.3 degree Celsius.
