Heavy rain disrupts power supply; water supply hit

As the city was lashed gusty winds accompanied by heavy downpour on late Sunday night, power supply snapped in several localities in Dehradun. Things continued for several hours. In some localities, the power cuts continued till Monday noon. Moreover, following power outage, supply of potable water was disrupted in several areas in the city. Power supply resumed by Monday noon in most of the localities thus affected.  
 
Many places of the State capital plunged into darkness on Sunday night when the wind blew hard. At some places, trees fell on electricity poles, resulting in snapping of power. Among the worst affected localities were Vikaslok, Shiv lok Colony, Rajpur, Subhash Road, Nehru Colony, Harrawala, Jogiwala, Raipur and Sahastradhara crossing.
 
It is learnt that four electricity poles were uprooted in Morwala while one each in Azad Colony and Prakash lok faced the same. One transformer and two electricity poles collapsed, damaging the boundary wall of Doon International School on Curzon Road. Trees fell on MDDA Feeder at Sahastradhara Road too. Power lines at Kargi, Devlok Colony, Nai Basti, Clamant Town, Mothorowala and Saharanpur Road were damaged during the raging storm and  rain. Power supply was disrupted as a tree fell on 33 KV Anawarwala, Hathibarkala power line. A tree fell in the Secretariat campus on Subhash Road too, disrupting power.  
 
Power -cuts ran into hours since Sunday night at several places like Shivlok Colony, Raipur, Salawala, Nehru Colony, Dalanwala, Nehru Colony, Haridwar bypass, Haridwar Road, and Rajpur Road.Things in the districts are no better with the people grappling with long spells of power-cuts. Rashmi, resident of Kewal Vihar said, “We did not get water in the morning because of the power being off. Power was restored by noon on Monday.”
