Pulling up the State Government for delay in the appointment of Food Safety Officers (FSO) and MBBS doctors being made to collect food samples in the State, the Jharkhand High Court on Monday asked Chief Secretary Rajiv Gauba to hold a meeting with the concerned officials and file an affidavit in this regard by next week.“The court was unhappy over the delay in the appointments of FSO and submission given by it that the MBBS doctors are involved in food sample collection job,” said advocate Jaiprakash.
The Jharkhand High Court was hearing a PIl initiated suo moto on the basis of a survey by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India that detected widespread adulteration of packaged milk being sold across the country. The court had also issued notices to Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary of Animal Husbandry Department and Principal Secretary of Health Department seeking their reply on the steps being taken by the state government on the matter.
According to the submission made by the state government, recommendation for the appointment of 86 FSOs had already been made by the department which was left pending with the cabinet for its approval.
