Wednesday, 30 September 2015 | PNS | Chandigarh

Haryana Election Commission on Tuesday directed all District Election Officers (DEOs)  and Election Registration Officers (EROs) to conduct training of booth level officers (BlOs) and hold meetings with political parties and educational institutions to seek their cooperation in preparation of correct electoral rolls.

Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad while addressing DEOs and EROs of all districts in the State through video conferencing, directed them to finalise their schedule of Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities, like marathons, rallies etc, to be conducted before October 15 to generate awareness among people.

Walgad said that social media like Facebook and Whatsapp would also be used to set up a communication channel between district level and election machinery.

He added that main aim of Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls 2016 is to register all eligible voters by taking January 1, 2016, as the qualifying date.

Walgad also appealed to those who will attain the age of 18 years as on January 1, 2016, to get their vote registered. Efforts would be made to issue them voter cards at the earliest, he added.

The draft electoral rolls would be published on October 15. The period for filing of claims and objections would be from October 15 to November 13.
