Apart from innovations focus should also be on improvisation of existing technologies. The Governor of Uttarakhand Dr K K Paul made this observation while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of 24 National Conference on Internal Combustion Engines at University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) here on Friday.
Giving example of Japanese car industry he said that it improvised as it realised the impending energy crises and vanished the American car industry in the process. Advising the participants to look beyond Internal Combustion Engines particularly in the Coal to liquid fuel as India has abundance of coal. Paul also suggested working in the direction of driving energy from the lithium – Iron synergy.
The three day conference is being organised by UPES under aegis of Combustion Institute (CI)- India Section.
Speaking on the occasion distinguished scientist and recipient of Padmabhushan, Dr V.K Saraswat said that CI needs to focus on reducing emissions of combustion because India is the third largest emitter of Carbon Di Oxide. He added that the research should be meaningful and ultimately lead towards societal benefits. Dr Saraswat is a member of “NITI Aayog” has to his credit indigenization of some of the most modern missiles like ‘Prithvi”, “Dhanush” and “Prahar” apart from devising diagnostic kits for “Dengue” and “Chikenguniea”.
The President of UPES, Utpal Ghosh asked the delegates to deliberate on evils of combustion during the conference. The director of Uttarakhand Space Application Center (USAC), Durgesh Pant said that the best way of developing technology is through deliberations The President of NASSCOM, BVR Mohan Reddy said that innovation needs to be a part and parcel of our culture and needs to be focused at on all levels.
The Director of Media Affairs in UPES, Arun Dhand informed that CI is an educational non-profit international scientific society founded in 1954 at Pittsburgh with the purpose of promoting research activities in combustion sciences. India is one of the 29 member countries
of CI.
The Secretary of CIIS, P K Pandey informed that 128 papers would be presented over the next three days during the conference.
