'Govt flouts Govardhan Peeth rights on Swatwalipi plea'

Thursday, 30 April 2015 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Govardhan Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati on Tuesday came down heavily on the State Government alleging that it is flouting the rights of the Peeth in the name of ‘Swatwalipi’ records of rights (ROR).

The statement of the Hindu spiritual leader assumed significance as some senior ruling BJD leaders recently maintained that the Shankaracharya was no way related with the Nabakalebar festival of lord Jagannath and his siblings directly as per the ROR of the Jagannath temple.

“Trinity in the 12th-century shrine are deities of the Govardhan Peeth. But the Government is flouting the rights of the Peeth in the name of records of rights,” said the Shankaracharya on Tuesday while gracing valedictory function of Adi Shankaracharya jayanti.

The Shankaracharya also maintained that the Government is making the Jagannath temple directionless. last week, the Shankarachrya had stated that he has not been consulted either by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration Chief Administrator or by the State Government about the Nabakalebar festival.
