The Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that Mahatma Gandhi was the guiding leader of the nation. The CM was addressing leaders and workers of the Congress at a programme organised by the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee at Congress Bhawa in Dehradun to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary on Friday.
Extolling Gandhiji on the occasion, the CM said that even those who support the ideology of Nathuram Godse are adopting the policies favoured by Gandhi. This is a matter of pride for the Congress, added Rawat. Speaking on the occasion, the Uttarakhand PCC president Kishore Upadhyaya exhorted the gathering of party workers to follow the tenets of truth and non-violence observed by Gandhi.
Earlier, the party workers paid homage to Gandhi and the unknown freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the cause of Indian independence. On the occasion, artistes also sang Gandhi’s favourite Bhajans while members of the Parvatiya Abhirang Natya Academy staged the play ‘Gandhi at Godse Dot Com’. The Uttarakhand PCC chief coordinator Jot Singh Bisht, State programme in-charge Rajendra Shah, Mahila Congress State head Sarojani Kaintura and spokesman Mathura Datt Joshi were among those present on the occasion.
