Even as the exercise to assess the crop damage in Haryana due to unseasonal heavy rains from March 1 to 3 and on March 7 to 8 in still going on, fresh spell of rains accompanied with high velocity winds in past 24 hours has done further damage to the crops.
Many parts of Haryana and Punjab have been lashed by rains and high velocity winds in the past over 24 hours. According to the Met Department, Haryana’s Bhiwani district recorded 16 mm rains, Hissar 6.8 mm rains, Karnal 5.8 mm rains, Ambala 2.1 mm till Monday morning. In neighboring Punjab, Amritsar received 3.6 mm rains, ludhiana 7.1 mm and Patiala 6 mm.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana recorded 11.2 mm rains. The Met Department has forecast possibility of light rain or thundershowers at some places in Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar and Karnal districts in next three days.
A Met official said that weather conditions would be partly cloudy during next 48 hours with possibility of rains during the period. Rainfall activity would increase afterwards in intensity and distribution and would occur at many places in Punjab and Haryana during April 3 to 5. He said that thundershowers or hailstorm with wind speed exceeding 45 kmph would also occur at few places during April 3 and 5 in the region.
