Former UKD candidate arrested for fraud

City police on Monday arrested Pauri resident Jitendra Mohan Semwal, a former Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) candidate from Doiwala Assembly constituency during 2012 Vidhan Sabha election for allegedly selling lands with forged documents to several persons based in Dehradun. 
Semwal had collected crores of rupees from individuals who had approached him for land, said Garhwal Range IG/DIG Sanjay Kumar Gunjyal. 
“He has neither provided them with the lands nor has he returned them the money,” he added while addressing the media here on Monday. Earlier, DIG and SSP had declared bounties of `5, 000 and `2, 500 respectively for his arrest.
 
Gunjyal said that SIT formed to probe the land fraud had received four written complaints and four verbal complaints from those duped by the leader of the principal regional party of the state.Based on written complaints, four cases were registered under sections 420/406/467/468/471/120b of IPC against Semwal- two in each of Nehru Colony police station and Dalanwala police station. The SIT conducted thorough investigation and issued a warrant against him. But he had absconded, Gunjyal said.  Presently, Semwal was living in Panditwadi under Cantt police station.
 
 Police team headed by Nehru Colony police station in-charge and sub-inspector Mukesh Tyagi was formed to arrest the accused. Acting on a tip off, the team arrested the accused on Monday.The 45- year- old post- graduate Semwal confessed his crime, saying  that he had collected around Rs one crore from persons who had approached him for land. The accused was sent to jail after being produced before the court, Nehru Colony Police Station in-charge Mukesh Tyagi.
 
IG Gunjyal said that with the price of land spiraling multiple times, the land forgery cases are increasing in the state capital. Around 100 applications related to land forgery have been reported in the SIT that comprises one inspector and two sub-inspectors to solve the land forgery cases. A total of 32 applications have been accepted so far.He directed the police officers to probe these four cases. The land mafias duping people would be hooked, he added.
