At least six police officials, including an OIC and three ASIs of Government Railway Police Station (GRPS), Bondamunda area, were placed under suspension on Saturday evening for allegedly showing favour to a ganja-loaded vehicle during their duty time.
Deputy Superintendent of Police GRP lodged a complaint against these officials, following which Superintendent of Railway Police, Rourkela issued suspension orders. These suspended six police officials also now face threat of arrest.
Sources said on August 27 night, a patrolling team of GRPS Bondamunda had noticed a Bolero vehicle standing in a secluded place near Bangabandhu stadium area. Suspecting some foul play, they had inspected the vehicle and had come to know that ganja had been loaded in the vehicle. Since there were no persons near the vehicle, they had searched for them and later found two persons were carrying these materials, who were sleeping in a local house.
They had taken them and the vehicle to their police station. Both the persons had admitted that they were transporting about 40 kg ganja to Jharkhand. Instead of seizing the vehicle and initiating legal action, the police officials of Bondamunda GRPS reportedly made a deal with them for releasing them against an amount of `10,000.
