Engineer gets 20-month RI in assets case

The Special Judge Court, Bhubaneswar on Friday sentenced Superintending Engineer Bipin Bihari Panda of the Rural Water Supply Sanitation (RWSS), Cuttack to 20 months of Rigorous Imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs2,00,000 on Panda, who will undergo RI of six months more if he fails to pay the fine amount.On the allegation of accumulation of disproportionate assets to his known sources of income, Panda’s residential houses at laxmisagar in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, office room at Cuttack, paternal house at Aska in Ganjam district, residential quarter of his son-in-law Bhanjanagar DFO Sisir Acharya were simultaneously raided on September 3, 1997.

During service period, Panda was found with accumulation of disproportionate assets worth of Rs30,10,495.
