A two-day convention against commercialisation and communalisation of education, organsied by the All India Students’ Bloc here, concluded on Sunday.
The national meet had discussion on various issues relating to education and students and proposals to resolve the issues. The demands included an end to commercialisation in education, creation of a unique education system in the country, employment guarantee after completion of course, allocation of a minimum 10-per cent Central Budget and 6 per cent of GDP to the education sector, end of fee hike in educational institutions, declassification of all documents relating to Netaji Subhas Bose, etc.
The body would hold regional-level consultations across the country and launch movements to press for its demands, said its State convenor Pradip Das. Around 200 student representatives from all over the country participated in the convention. Among others, Forward Bloc All-India general secretary Debabrat Biswas, All-India Students’ Bloc national general secretary Amaresh Kumar and youth leader Jyoti Ranjan Mohapatra were present.
