Hundreds of students under the banner of the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) staged a State-level demonstration protesting the commercialisation and communalisation of education here on Tuesday.
The students took out a procession on the streets that culminated at the lower PMG, where a protest meeting was held under the chairmanship of AIDSO State president Akshay Das.
The students’ body demanded re-introduction of the pass-fail system in schools, abolition of block grant system and appointment of adequate number of teaching and non-teaching staffs in all educational institutions on permanent basis, appointment of PET, art and music teacher in all schools, withdrawal of fee hike, PPP and Privatisation-Commercialisation of education, scrap of gradation system, semester and Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), etc.
later, a group of member of the AIDSO led by its State vice-president Subash Nayak met the Higher Education Minister and another team led by State vice-president Ganesh Tripathy met the School and Mass Education Minister and discussed various educational issues.
AIDSO State secretary Shibasis Praharaj, Kedarnath Sahoo, Sidhartha Rath and Kartik Mohanta led the demonstration.
