After targeting the State Government for drought and farmer suicide cases outside, the BJP on Sunday decided to take on the Government by demanding a Whitepaper over the same issue during the Winter Session of the Assembly beginning on Tuesday.
The saffron party would make the drought and increasing farmer suicides its main agenda.
The decisions were taken at the BJP legislature Party meeting held at the party headquarters here to discuss the strategy for the Assembly session.
The party also decided to take up other important issues like irregularities in ration card distribution and NFSA enrolment, plight of various sections of teachers and the law and order situation in the State.
Speaking to the media after the meeting MlA Pradeep Purohit said, “This year’s drought is the worst one in the State after 1965. Farmers continue to commit suicide. We will make drought and farmer suicide our main agenda in the Assembly.”
He informed that the party would also raise issues like electricity crisis and plights of Gana Shikshaks, Block Grant teachers and contract teachers.
“There are large-scale irregularities in distribution of ration cards, and people have locked up panchayats at many places. The law and order situation is also in a bad state. Killing of innocent civilians by security forces in Kalahandi and killing of a man by police in Bargarh, violation of Section-144 by Ministers and MlAs and death of infants at the Cuttack Sishu Bhawan would also be raised,” said Purohit, adding that the future of the Kalahandi medical college students would also be raised during the session.
