Doon lurks in darkness as rain hits power supply

Tuesday, 31 March 2015 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Several localities in the State capital were left without electricity supply following the continuous rainfall for the past two days in the city. Though the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) officials claimed that linemen had undertaken immediate repairing of faulty power lines, many localities in Dehradun remained without power for up to 12 hours.

Several places of the State plunged into darkness on Sunday night when it was raining heavily. However, the department officials claimed that the technical snags were removed immediately to ensure disruption-free round-the-clock power supply to the consumers. A resident of a locality off Rajpur Road complained that there was no power for around 15 hours and more on Sunday. At some places, trees fell on electricity poles, resulting in power cuts in various areas.  Among the worst affected localities were Vikaslok, Shivlok Colony, Raipur and Sahastradhara crossing.

Moreover, following power outage, supply of potable water was disrupted in several areas in the city on Monday. Power supply resumed on Monday in most of the localities. The residents of Shivlok Colony and Rajpur Road said they faced power cuts for more than 15 hours. Things were the same in the Raipur areas where power supply remained erratic throughout Sunday night. In Shivlok Colony, power that had gone out on Sunday night resumed after 12.15 pm on Monday, it is learnt.
