Reacting to the State BJP president Teerath Singh Rawat’s demand for CBI inquiry into recent happenings at Nari Niketan, Chief Minister’s media in-charge Surendra Kumar said on Wednesday that Nari Niketan being a very sensitive issue, the BJP should refrain from making political capital out of it. “Perhaps, they have forgotten that since inception of Uttarakhand, BJP has ruled the State for seven years. Have they done anything worthwhile for the home in terms of a fool-proof security cover for itIJ” he asked.
As far as the sordid happenings at the home is concerned the Chief Minister Harish Rawat himself has ordered a high level inquiry, he said. “It is not that things are being inquired for the first time. Since 2010, things related to it are being probed. BJP had better wait till the probe is completed. By way of revamping things, CM has asked to maintain health record of each of the inmates at the time of their admission. Care is being taken of their health card, diet chart, security and other amenities. We wonder why BJP could not have gone for these things when they were in power,” Kumar said.
Tearing into BJP for using CBI card too much to bully the State Government, he said such a strategy is a self-defeating one. “We have zero tolerance for corruption. But are they cleanIJ Two of their chief ministers had quit as they were tainted with myriad graft charges such as Sarangi Kand, disaster scam, Kumbh scam, capital construction scam and citurgia scam. The last one is interesting as they had changed the nature of land use in just one hour. They built up palatial bungalows for the CMs, spending `25 crore. Swimming pool was added. Now they are preaching honesty and integrity to us. They must explain to the people whether squandering such sums for the CM’s residence when the State happens to be a small one is right,” he said.
