The 16th 'Doli Rath Yatra' will begin in Uttarakhand this year on May 5. Speaking about this religious event at a meeting, the State education minister Mantri Prasad Naithani, who is also organiser of this programme, said on Wednesday that this year the religious event would continue till May 28. This basic purpose of organising this 'Doli Rath Yatra' is to make the people aware of the religious and cultural heritage the state embodies, he said. More importantly, such functions come as an opportunity to understand people's problems, added the minister. Besides, such religious events promote social unity, peace and love, he further said. The historic 'Doli Rath Yatra' would travel across many important religious places both in Kumaon and Garhwal divisions during its 24- day- long journey, he said.
