In a shocking case of suicide, a 46-year-old artisan ended his life by shooting himself to death at his house in Nehru Colony on Slag Road under Golmuri police station area in the wee hours of Thursday. The artisan was famous for making clay idols, the deceased identified as Om Prakash Das was suffering from depression.
Sources informed that Das had returned home after finishing his day’s work of idol making at suburban Baghbera locality and went to bed on roof top instead of sleeping inside his room.
“He was drunk at the time he returned home, his wife Durga Devi scolded him for taking liquor everyday. This argument led to a fight between them. As there was a marriage ceremony in the neighbourhood Durga Devi went to attend it, having served the dinner to her husband,” a relative.
“At midnight, there was a sound from the roof top of the Das’ single-storeyed house. Everyone was shocked at the sound coming from the roof top and soon rushed to the roof-top to find the man lying in a pool of blood,” the relative pointed out.
The anxious wife and 19-year-old year son, Ajay saw Das was lying on the floor of the roof-top with the pistol lying at a little distance away from the body. Soon they all rushed him to the Tata Main Hospital emergency where he was declared as brought dead.
Officer-in-charge, Golmuri police station, Madan Mohan Singh confirmed it to be a case of suicide and stated that they have registered a case of unnatural death on the statement made by Ajay Das, son of the deceased.
